One painting down, One to go

Today I finished the first of the two paintings and although it's taken many different forms over the past couple of weeks I think this is what I initially envisioned for the painting when I first started. I also think I can learn a lot when it comes to completing the second painting; for example, I have a technique that gives the paint a clean, smooth feel which is what I want for both pieces.
For the second painting I want to change the colours slightly to make them more vivid to fit with the first and also to fit with the video art which, as you can see in the preview clip will be very colourful. I hope to have the second painting done by the end of next week so I can use the final week to really plan the presentation of my 3 pieces.

Recent photos of the paintings

This is more or less the current state of the two paintings but because I am working on them every day they are constantly changing. I am pleased with how they are coming along but now I really want to focus on making the colours exactly how I want them and for them to generally have a cleaner look to them. I like the fact that they use very different colour palettes because when I put them next to each other in the studio they really seem to compliment each other which will hopefully be even more emphasised in the final show.

Video Art (so far)

This is the current state of my video art, as you can see because of how rapidly the shots are cut together there is still a lot more that I need to film but this is the general gist of how I want the piece to feel; colourful, energetic and with a clear message. My aim now that I have the editing formula pinpointed is to just shoot as much as I can and put it all together quite fast so I can focus on finishing and then ultimately presenting my work.

Video Art Progress

I have been experimenting with my video and I cant seem to get the flowing movement that I want so I have decided to essentially start the editing process again but this time I will film the videos with my camcorder directly from the monitor, this way I can control camera movement and make it more expressive so it fits with the paintings.
This also opens up new possibilities because now I can film things in the studio such as segments from my paintings or the mixing of a colour just so the link between the video art and the paintings is even more emphasised.
I am still working on the paintings and I'll post some up to date pictures tomorrow.

Video Art

My idea for the piece of video art was just to show what has inspired the paintings and through the first week of the Easter break I was just trying to construct a template of what I want the piece to look like. I thought of possibly having shots of my face/eyes observing the footage/images that I show which I might still do but for now I've gone with a simple montage of shots put together using a short piece of TV static to transition from shot to shot. This is like my imagination just flicking from one influence to the next which I thought would be a nice lively thing to be going on in front of the paintings.
I will post a list of things that are to be included in the video art and my reasoning behind them all.
For now I just really want to play around with the clips and just see what happens, I want it to be a rather spontaneous working method.
